Hi, I'm currently using Windows media player to listen to USMLE lectures. I want to increase the playback speed to 2-3 maybe even 4 times the normal speed. The problem is that when I use WMP's feature to increase the playback rate faster than 2x, the audio becomes jumpy, clicky, and skips, (generally inaudible). Listening between 1-2x normal speed is fine.

Does anybody know how I can overcome this? That is are there any solutions to listening to audio/video files at 2-4 times regular speed without the audio skipping?

Thanks!!!!!!!!

The fastest I could ever listen to the lectures was at +75% speed. Four times faster, which is 400% would be completely incomprehensible. I think it's a very good idea to speed up the lectures, if you manage to just speed it up to 30-40%, you can save A LOT of time. This is something I discovered late in my prep. I wish I had learnt of it sooner.

I used winamp. You can download a free version of it from here:

After downloading winamp, you will need an plug in to it called Pacemaker, which you can download from here:

However, do try the other sites people have suggested here. Maybe they are better and simpler methods at speeding the videos up. Bottom line is that speeding up the lectures is a VERY good idea. It will save hours and hours, especially with the Biochem, physio and anatomy teachers who talk VERY slowly. With Goljan also, I speeded him up to +30%.

Note, there are many programs out there that speed up the video without ruining the pitch, so it really sounds as if the person is talking faster (and he doesn't sound like a chimpmunk). Get those for yourself because otherwise the pitch problems get annoying.
