a patient is conscious and able to speak, but has noisy breathing, does he need an airway or the airway is already present ?

airway is present for him to speak. is it clear or muffled? the essential question here would be how patent is the airway ? is it devoid of potentially obstructing substances like blood, teeth, and other foreign body. if airway is clear then we move on to breathing otherwise, we will need to secure airway for patient.

i fthey talk about gurgling sounds, i think it implies impending airway obstruction and the pt shud be intubated.
