You have an HIV-infected patient in your clinic and you manage his antiretroviral therapy along with his other medicines. You recently obtained a CD4 count and an HIV-1 PCR viral load: 20 and more than 1 million, respectively. You suspect that the patient is not taking the prescribed medicines. You explain that he needs to take 95% or more of the three doses daily (usually three to four pills per dose) to have success in treating this disease. You also know that the patient needs prophylaxis because the CD4 and viral load counts are so low. Which of the following medicines do you prescribe for prophylaxis in addition to his antiretroviral therapy? A. Amoxicillin for Kaposi's sarcoma B. Trimethoprim and amoxicillin C. Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for PCP D. Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and zithromax E. Zithromax and amoxicillin F. Zithromax for Mycobacterium avium

isnt D the best choice anyway...as it has both...trimeth-sulfamethoxazole AND azythromycin. that will take care of BOTH pcp and mucobac avium complex....!
