spherocytes occur in autoimmune hemolytic anemia because of removal of RBC membrane by macrophages-

Thanks,MRMAVERICK. you mean it's getting smaller? why not it becomes schistocytes? i guess RBC membrane is very fragile,so if it's attacked by IgG and C3(AIHA),it can be broken to schistocytes. what do you think? thanks in advance. (i know it's not written in the kaplan pathology book. just my thoughts)

Normally RBC is is a biconcave disc. When small part of membrane is taked off by the macrophages in the spleen then gradually surface /volume ratio is decreases which converts the RBC from biconcave disc to round sphere (microspherocytosis).Schistocytes are produced only when RBCs are mechanically damaged as in - Microangiopathic anemia
- Macroangiopathic anemia.
Maximum you can say why not" Bite cells "?? hehehheheheh Best of luck
