An athlete is examined .His Lab showws HDL 12mg/dL.HEENT is normal.

Probable cause??

  #2

no tangier because HEENT is normal...but tonsils are enlarged and orange colored...

maybe familial HA, but I remember the difeerential includes almost 6 inherited diseases...but my teachers told me to remember Tangier as a good example..

he is an athlete, so the rest of his lipid profile can be either acceptable or normal...

hmmm...my answer is FAMILIAL HA.

  #3

Think on some other more probable cause

  #4

young, athlete...some sort of drug: steroids, whatever....

  #5

classic LCAT deficiency?
Fish eye disese?

  #6

maybe this is what sea_gull is looking for, but in LCAT deficiency HDL levels are even lower, some of them normally are <10...and HEENT IS NORMAL
