UN-POPULAR RESIDENCIES FOR AMERICANS??????

Why are the unpopular residencies so unpopular? Is it because of the high malpractice insurance or ... what?
I am having dilemas which residency to pick...
I am interseted in Gynecology (among several other-ones)... but I heard it's most prosecuted profession.

Why is Psychiatry so unpopular? Don't people want to explore human psyche?

Any advice?

My "most-wanted" residency is Ophthalmology, but I understood that it is very hard to get...

... or am I wrong... ?

psych is getting more popular. before it was 50% us grads. now it is 65% us grads.
