Dear friend, i did not know this will come that way it has. I have been working in a non hospital/clinical related setting. I did not have the foresight to plan in advance and now the situation is that my application lacks LORs. I am green card holder so no visa issue. I am I have step 1 87 on second attemp, step 2 82 and cs passed, waiting for ecfmg certificate while writing personal essay these days.

Do you think i stand any chance if i apply without LORs?

Please help/advise.

It may sound very silly but could you offer any advise/opinion on hospitals offering obsevership around in NY?

Thanks in advance

Try to get lors from your home town. I talked to a pd and his first question was who were your referees...it seems that lor is an important component as well.

Good luck! Don't panick...just open your address book and call people back home.

I am trying hard to find some observership/volunteer work. I don't know if any hospitals have these positions anymore. I am going to apply to atleast 100 programs around NYC. Hope i get called somewhere. Good luck people. Keep posting.

Docofthebigapple,

from my own experience, trying to walk in or call HR department (better if you walk in). and introduce yourself and credentials, and what you hope to do, and most importantly , be friendly and confident. Then, you shouldn't have a problem gettiing an observership.

I always feared confrontation and having to talk or meet someone especially when I have to speak english, because I feel I'm in the spotlight. But really, once you get over this first step, it becomes easier and easier.

another tip, I didn't know that you could list an observership in your CAF even if you haven't started it yet, as long as you're accepted and hae a start date.

If you know that already, good for you ;-)

Thank you dear friends, I appreciate your good faith. I will certainly go to one of the teaching hospitals around in my area to check for an oppertunity at the earliest.
Thank you very much.

docofthebigapple, to my knowledge. lors are a prerequisite for all residency programs generally a mininum of 2-3 letters depending on the program. they will not consider your application complete unless these minimum requirements are met. get the letters from where you went to med school if possible, whether from the US or abroad, just meet the requirements or your application may be passed over or held until the letters are available.
