maybe cos with hyperthyroidism, child is hyperactive and cannot stay still to learn while the hypothyroid one stays still. i think hypothyroidism is associated with mental retardation cos GH is not going to be released appropriately. so there should also be some form of poor performance with hypothyroidsim too.
