Hi! i just passed step 1 and was thinking of doing fellowship instead of residency in the US. I finished OB residency and then Perinatology as fellowship here in PGH, and was wondering if the chances of getting a fellowship slot are bigger than residency? If so, how do I go about applying to a fellowship program? I want to establish a practice here, but want to do further studies abroad. Mas mahirap ba tong binabalak ko???

since your plan is to practice in PI, i would try getting fellowhips here. imean check very good perinatology fellowship programs..however you still have to pass step 2&step3..and do the match for fellowship..and it would take time, i mean maybe 1 yr to finish certifications&be ready for Match 2010..get all the 3 or 4 excellent letters of recommendations- from chairman of pediatrics etc, your dean's letter or MSPE&start your MLE journey again!!!

to seansico: i believe you can do it too start to look at ECFMG.org website to know the process..where to start etc..make it sure you got your medical transcript, medical diploma, medical clerkshiprotation as requirements..you can take step1, step 2 ck there in Phils..step 2 CS in US& step 3 also in US..get First Aid for step 1&get the other books you need at the back of First Aid step 1. Get it done soon...just my advice..goodluck

hi everyone, i have posted here before but it's been a while,i took my step1 last 2007 and got low 70s. then i took the board exam last feb and passed. did some moonlighting. i really want to go into ob but i know it's hard to get in sa US. do u think i should still continue on to step 2 ck and cs considering my step1 score or just do my residency here in PI? i hope to get some feedback. God bless everyone!

if you really want to do your residency training in the US then by all means do it. yes, it's very difficult to penetrate the US graduate medical education especially for IMGs but that does not mean it can't be done. Just because it's hard doesn't mean that you shoudn't try it. More so if you really want it. at this point you must decide which direction you would take - here or there. that is step 1. it can't be both ways. just my 1 philippine peso worth of advise.
