Yes there's a girl who graduated from St. Luke's Hospital - Philippines that matched in OB-GYN at St. Luke's here in the East Coast. I know an Chinese IMG with previous OB-GYN residency and an old grad that matched this year at Kentucky for OB-GYN. This was her 2nd try for the match and she got lucky.

Successfully getting into a program after all the struggle is such a blessing. It would be nice to make a list of Pinoys who got a program this season and last year's season and tabulate this. Both for residencies and fellowships. Please email me the following info: last name: first name: email: Phil medical school and batch: US program/hospital: specialty: city and state: match year: The table will be posted (with your permission) in one of our local forums (non-public) for the benefit of those who are aiming for 2009/2010 match season. It won't be posted in any other forum or distributed to other people. For more info, email me directly. Please inform your friends too. Thanks! Tech99 esokittenkeona@gmail.com

HI mga kababayans just want to ask for your honest opinions re: taking step 3 before residency..im planning to take step 3 however i got i GC/ immigrant visa already..do you think it would be advantagious to take step 3 in preparation for Match 2009? will the program coordinators rather directors use step 3 to filter IMGs for the match?i work as full time right now&my off days are spent taking care of my 2 1/2 yr old daughter...will step 3 boost my application?or having the certification will be enough for the match?anybody can pitch their opinion/s regarding this matter...it would be greatly appreciated...im just worried that i will not pass the test or get a low score that would screw up my matching application chances..

You can get it over with, even before the start of residency. The usual time for residents to take this exam is sometime between the 1st year and the 2nd year - for some programs, before going into the 3rd year. Just imagine reviewing for an exam like this during your intern year, and you NEED to pass it... it makes your nerves go haywire. I have seen a lot of my friends who had to take the step 3 during their intern year, and they're complaining about finding the time to study. Fortunately they all passed. But the thing is, you could have skipped all the anxiety and trouble of studying for it during your 1st year, if you have already finished it even before the match. 2. Makes you eligible for the H1b. And I know this benefit is not applicable for you. 3. No matter what others say, it is still being used as a screening tool, and even for ranking purposes. In the program where I matched, during my interview, the PD told me that he was happy I already passed my step 3. He said, not verbatim, that its much easier for him to decide where I will be ranked if he comes across another applicant with the same credentials/achievements as I have, but hasn't taken the step 3 yet. In all my interviews this season, most of my interviewers commended the fact that I have finished all the exams already (even if my step 3 score was marginal)... one PD even told me that nothing beats a ready applicant with regards to completed exams. Having said this, he told me, that at the back of his head, he doesn't have to worry anymore if this guy will or will not pass the last step, and probably delay his promotion in the training program. Lesson of the story, if you can prove that you won't cause too much headaches in the program, then its a positive thing - thus, having completed all exams, less worry for programs, so, its a point for you in the eyes of PDs. Just think about it. But like what I always say, take the exam if you feel you're confident in taking it already. There's always the risk of failing it...that's why it all comes down to your confidence level, that you'll be able to pass it. Good luck!

From Dr. Conrad Fischer in this forum If you have good step 1 and 2 scores, you should NOT take step 3 until AFTER The rank list is sumbitted . You have nothing to gain. If you need an H1 visa and MUST take it, it looks just like step 2. Program Directors assume you will do the same as you did on previous exams. If the first two scores are great, they assume step 3 will be great. That is why should should, if possible, take the exam in the window between the step 1 and 2 result being back and the application results know, and the start of residency.

I just uploaded in the pinoymle forum the tabulated list of Pinoys who got a program this year and last year (matched/prematched/postmatched). This is probably just a slice of the entire cake because I am pretty sure there are more out there. So for those who belong to this category and want their names (or their friend's name) included in order to give a more complete and heterogenous list, please email me the ff info at esokittenkeona@gmail.com: last name: first name: email: Phil medical school and batch: US program/hospital: specialty: city and state: match year: For the privacy of those people in the list, please do not distribute the list elsewhere. If you want your friend/s to have this list available to them, please ask them to join the pinoymle forum. Also if you are going to email some people on the list to inquire about their programs, kindly research first from the program/hospital's website since the info you are trying to get may have been posted there already.
