OH yeah, UW is really hard. Not that the actual exam is easier though. But yep, I found UW for step 3 really really hard. I think after finishing the question databas, I only averaged aroung 56%. but yeah, I even got 30-40% in some blocks, haha.

Were the papersheets you mentioned the one used during the exam? If yes, then the only time i used them were to write my differentials before I put in my initial lab and ancillary orders. Had to make sure that I was considering all the related disorders based on the symptoms. And then I wrote my orders directly on the screen based on the differentials I have. It saves time, but it takes a bit of practice so that you won't miss out any important tests.

Good luck!

Thanks!...another week begins...hopefully there will be something to disturb the crickets in my inbox (and here's hoping it's NOT a rejection letter). Good luck!

  #353

hey hecmd. did you apply at UVHS surgery? Got a supplemental questionnaire from this program thru my personal email and not in myERAS. Did you get any of these last year?

  #354

hey clyde,

UVHS =university of virginia health system? Nope I didn't send an application this year, though I distinctly remember that I sent one last year, and yeah, they do have that supplemental questionnaire that needs to be filled out. Unfortunately, for my part, they don't sponsor any visas. That was their reply last year, they specifically mentioned that you must be on a J1 already before considering your application for interview; and they don't sponsor any h visas.

now, I don't know if you have any visa issues, but that's the reason why i didn't send an application there this year.

Hey hec. Yup, Univ of Virginia. Nope, I dont have any visa issues just the rejection issues. hehehe. And I got another rejection from Banner Good Sam for surg. though I got an invitation for EM from UMC.

  #356

Did you guys hear about the group of Pinoy nurses indicted for patient abandonment in NY? One of them was the top of our Phil Boards sometime ago...medboards, i mean. hayayaya...that will not be good for pinoy imgs....

  #357

didn't hear about the nurses...that sucks!

anyway, week's been quiet. although i anticipate a rejection from duke any day now...they've sent out a "we're reviewing apps and will get back to you soon with our decision" notice to everyone.

well, have a great day everyone!

  #358

clyde,

ahhh yes, the visa. the trump card in every match season. i don't think you'll have any problems matching into a program, even surgery. I have a friend, 1 batch higher than me, she flunked step 1 3 times, and when she finally passed i think she got something like 76 or something. she doesn't have any visa problems. Anyway, to make the long story short, she's already on her 2nd year of surgery residency.

congrats on the em invite, it's not that bad, coz em is actually the closest thing to surgery.

I have yet to receive my first good news, still quiet at my end.
Good luck everyone!

The nurses are countering that it's not true, but the bad publicity is there...
quiet on my end too...

  #360

yeah, besides 3 "we are still reviewing applications" replies, haven't heard from so many programs who have sent out rejections already (based on what i've been reading in some threads) So its either, my application is not yet reviewed or they're considering me but they'll be sending out invites by bulk. Haha, i'd wish it was the latter. Good thing this research i'm doing is taking my mind off of things.

didn't hear about the nurses either.

haven't gotten an invite from some places that seem to have given invites out to other applicants (mostly u.s. grads from what i gather)...but then again, i haven't gotten a rejection from them either...i'm hoping for the same hec: that they may be considering me and send me an invite later! some places that have supposed sent out rejections, i haven't heard from either...i guess i'd rather not if they're rejections! hopefully i'm still in the "maybe" list. hehe.

  #362

supposed to supposedly...sorry for the typo!

  #363

hey guys? where are all the pinoys?

anyway, silence in my mailbox this week...at least october is around the corner...hopefully my last lor will get uploaded ("received" first!) and that i get good news with regards to my cs results!

have a good weekend everyone! smiling face

  #364

silence also...

  #365

well, weekend's here, a couple of days to take a break from work, but honestly, I'd rather work today than stay at home coz i can't relax with all the compulsions to check myeras every once in awhile (though I have already cut it down to a minimum of 3 times a day, haha) Last year, interviews would still come even on a weekend, so you'll never know.

Well, got 1 rejection from anes (Univ of cinci) and then another from surg (union med center), so really can't say that it was a fruitful week for me. The only thing to do is move on and prepare for the upcoming weeks.

ustmd2006, don't worry about the cs, I know you'll pass. Like what i always say, as long as you know how to do basic history and pe, and speak clear/good english, you're ok for the cs. I have always believed its the easiest exam among the 4. So I don't think its preemptive if I already raised my glass for a congratulations toast to you, for passing it.

good luck everyone for this week, may it bring us all good news.

Hi fellow pinoy IMGs. Im back on track for this season. Hecmd, we were in the same plight last year in applying for Surgery programs. This year, I am applying to other specialties as well, more programs, more states especially in the east coast / mid atlantic states( Last year I only applied to 25 programs, all surgery, in 3 central states).
ECFMG takes too long to upload our documents. They should have made necesseary measures to correct this problem. I havent applied to any programs because my LORs were not yet uploaded ( one delay to another ).
I hope this will be a better year for all of us.

  #367

yep, i remember you scalpeldocph. Well, i also applied to other specialties, but my heart still belongs to surgery. So hopefully, we get what we really want.

Good luck!

thanks for having such confidence in me hec! but i would rather save that toast for when i see the result on paper! hehe. i do appreciate the kind comments. this is why i participate in this forum. people like you really help to ease my anxiety!

next week oct. begins...hopefully so will the interview invites!

have a relaxing weekend everyone!

  #369

kamusta fellow pinoy imgs! ..going for Anes (although i know its a long shot), IM and FM....my dream program would be in Anes, but i will be very happy with IM or FM...i guess as a 2002 grad, i dont have the luxury of time.. and i do want to start residency next year...so far my IVs are all for IM...goodluck sa ating lahat!!!!

  #370

hey everyone smiling face since my last post, i've flown to LA, but havent really studied much for the CS, which is next week! que horror. anyway, i just wanted to say WASSUPPPPP haha am-girl na bigla. monday na bukas, lets all start crossing our fingers and toes! nod

  #371

good luck kaikangaru! kaya mo yan!

another quiet day for me...how's everyone else doing?

  #372

i agree...step 2 cs is very doable. i actually spoke in Tagalog at one point (can't beat the ingrained training) and the actor looked at me like what?!?!? I just pretended nothing happened...
everybody i now feels terrible after the exam, but we all passed...oh yeah, i was so nervous, i dropped my steth 3 times in my first patient encounter...hahaha..and my patient notes--ooh lalala...very messy indeed...So I think it's really the patient encounter that matters. Studied ten days by myself...once with a partner...but it's a really expensive exam you dont want to repeat. If you don't know by now, digidoc is pretty fun to study for that...
LA center was very cold so I ended up wearing gloves...
Come early...
Good luck!
Quiet for me too...
When do we panic? Good luck!

  #373

thanks for all the encouragement you guys! =) i'm still in vacay mode kaya ang hirap magseryoso sa aral! on my end, it's been a happy monday. got two more invites this morning: an IM prog in philly and a pedia prog in chicago, which brings my total to 5. i guess it's true that things do pick up in october, so don't lose hope and just keep checking those inboxes. God bless us all. =)

  #374

congrats kaikangaru, seems IM and pedia are kicking up the ante, well with more than 4000 positions each, available every year in both specialties, yep, they gotta start somewhere. Well, good luck to you!

Still quiet on the surgical side (or is it just at my end?! i hope NOT!) But yeah, the season just officially started this october, and its going to peak by december probably. Hope is still around the corner (last year, most of my friends got their first invites just before thanksgiving.)

good luck!

congrats on your invites kaikangaru! you must be a stellar candidate.

honeysuckle, it's still early...so we just have to chill and be patient. most people i've spoken to say that late october/early november should be when most invites are sent...and if by the end of nov. you don't have enough invites---then it's time to panic and time to start applying to more programs! or so i've heard...those with more experience can correct me if i'm wrong!

hec, it's been quiet for path too...well for imgs anyway...the amgs seem to be racking up the invites...although i have noticed that the same people have been getting the invites...i hope the programs realize that they can't just invite the top-notch candidates cause each of them can only end up in one program! our time will come...hang in there!

anyone else as anxious as i am for the oct. 10th release of cs scores? or has everyone already cleared it?
