oneirosdreams, actually, its just for eras, if you applied for 60 programs from 1 specialty. When you send your application at myeras, before you confirm payment, it will give you the computation of the total amount. NRMP is a separate entity, but related for the match, you need to pay $40 to register and with that you can send a 20 program long ROL. When it comes to rank order lists, you will only put in those programs you HAD an interview. Because a program will not rank you if you weren't interviewed, that's almost universal. I have yet to meet an IMG who was interviewed in 60 different places, coz the usual number of interviews an IMG will have (don't quote me for this) can be anywhere from 2-15. I know someone who had 15 interviews but didn't match, and i know someone who had just 1 interview and matched - both were schoolmates of mine. Anyway, what I'm trying to point out is, it doesn't necessarily mean if you applied to 60 programs, your ROL will be 60 programs long. Your ROL will depend on the number of interviews you will get, and based on your own decision, if you will rank a certain place you interviewed at. hope that answers your question.

Hi everyone! I just passed the Philippine boards and I'm planning to take the USMLE to be able to do my residency in the US. I think a lot (I mean a whole lot) of my batchmates are going to take the USMLE.

Hi guys! I’m currently in the process of scouting for hospitals that I can apply to for the 2008 Match. If u have any info regarding hospital requirements for IM and FM (i.e: USMLE score cut-off, VISA status, year of graduation, etc.etc, ) in any hospital in the east coast (preferrably CT, NJ,NY,PA) , I hope that u could send it to me (or better yet, just post it for everybody’s benefit). Thanks!!! good luck to us all

Hey hecmd, thanks for the info. Definitely cleared up the confusion between ERAS and NRMP. Follow up question though, when are we supposed to register for NRMP? After all the interviews?

sure, glad to help. With NRMP, I think it opened Aug 1st, so you can register na, registration will be until feb ata, not really sure. But by dec. 1st and you haven't registered at NRMP, you will be considered a late applicant. Its no big deal though, you'll still be able to send an ROL by february, the only thing is you'll be required to pay an additional 50 bucks for the late registration, (along with the initial $40). People delay their NRMP registration because they want to be sure first if they'll be getting invites for interviews (which usually comes out early october). But no one's stopping you from registering early, especially if you don't want to pay the additional fees. Good luck!

Hi hec! I was wondering if you know which state allows you to take Step 3 without prior residency training here? My friend called the Connecticut board. They said that they didn't require training, but when she looked up their website, it said they did require at least 2 yrs of residency in the US. I was also wondering if you know if we have to pay FSMB and the state where you want to take it separate fees? Hope you could enlighten me on this. I was planning to take Step3 before the end of the year, but I found out the deadline is Sept.4 and I won't be certified till October. The earliest I could take it is January daw. By the way, I took my CS early Aug in Philly. Remember when I asked if you knew a hotel there? I ended up going to Sheraton. Sulit naman 'coz it's only a couple of blocks from the testing center. Am just praying that it all works out. Thanks again for all your help!! Goodluck in the upcoming match!!

hi lilac, good luck with your CS results. Well, I registered step 3 with connecticut, and I guess ok naman coz I was able to take the exam last feb this year, and I don't think they made any recent changes with their requirements in that short span of time. Ok, about the step 3, it's really confusing with all the medical licensing and state board stuff going on. But to take the step 3, you only need to register at fsmb.org, choose which state you want as a "licensing sponsor" (its just a term so don't get confused with it), and then pay the fees to fsmb, I thinkk it's $600 something. Now, you don't need to be in connecticut to take the exam, you can take it anywhere, as long as you're in the US. And once you pass it, your step 3 will be honored in all licensing boards across the country. Now, with the deadlines, I'm not really that sure if there are deadlines, coz I think I paid for my exam first week of january, then took the exam feb 8 and 9. Well, good luck with step 3 and good luck with the match rin!

Hi hec! Thanks for the info! Follow-up question lang. Which reviewers do you recommend? I know First Aid is good, but I feel like it's not enough. Do you know any good ones aside from FA and how long did you study? Sorry for harassing you with all these questions

Hey hec, ok I guess I'll register with NRMP around mid Nov. Definitely before Dec 1, not willing to spend an extra $50. Hi Lilac, we don't need US training to register with FSMB and take Step 3. What the site was referring to is the State Board/Licensing which we will need to take after residency. Got confused with that one too few months ago. You're right about the Sept 4 deadline. Took my CS Aug also. If the scores arrive after Sept 4, the earliest we can take Step 3 is Jan 2008, just like what hecmd did. Let's just hope the programs are willing to wait for our scores. Good luck to everyone!

Nah its ok, I'm always glad I could help. Ok, about the step 3, I used FA and crush step 3. I think they're both ok, but they're not superb. FA for me is like filled with cluttered information, it's throwing so much information here and there, that sometimes i don't see any coherence in what i'm reading. On the other hand, Crush is well organized, it has a good flow of topics, but there are some important subject areas that were missing. So, aside from those two, I reread my CK kaplan notes all over again, butI just breezed through them, jus tto fill in for those topics that I thought I need to review more. I registered for the exam probably first week jan and took it feb 8-9, so I guess that's about a month of studying. I read FA and crush 3 times, breezed through step 2 notes, then at night i answered around 2-3 blocks from UW, and reviewed 5 CCS cases. Now, my gf told me that kaplan is better than UW, but I really can't say for sure coz I only used UW, So I guess its up to you which one you'd prefer. About the exam, I think I wrote my step 3 experience here, just go through the the previous pages and read it, so that you'll know how's it like to take the exam. Good luck to both of you on your step 3!

Hello to all. I'm new to this forum and i just need some advice from fellow pinoys. Thank God I found this forum. I graduated from UST and currently trying for the 2008 match. I have some questions regarding my chances for the match. I got 92 in step 1 but unfortunately had a low score of 84 in my CK. I am scheduled to take the CS on the last week of september. I was so depressed when I recieved my CK score. Do you think i should go for it? If yes, how many programs must i apply to? any suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated.

maveric, as much as your pocket allows you. But as they always say, apply wisely. Even with good scores, if you don't meet some programs' requirements, they won't even look at your application. Such as a friedn of mine who had 90s both steps, but wasn't interviewed in some programs even though he met the score requirement (they required an ecfmg certificate), while in some programs, they're strict on the 1 year us experience requirement. so it really varies. search for programs who doesn't require a certificate ( i know you'll be certified by december pa) as part of their application requirements. good luck everyone, the race begins again.

hecmd23 thank you for your reply. i am currently applying to some programs right now. i'll try to limit my application to a maximum of 60, purely IM programs. thanks for your advice regarding the ECFMG certificate requirement. I almost missed that one.

hey kaikangaru, I haven't applied yet. still delaying for a couple more days. Didn't want to join the buzz of sept 1, and waiting for my strongest lor to be uploaded. Can't risk my application being reviewed too early without that last piece of document. And yeah, i see you got acquainted with the match syndrome. I got it bad last year, hehe. But still, surgery programs took a long time to review our applications, thats why there was a time when I got tired checking myeras on a daily basis. Probably one of the reasons also why I'm delaying this year, coz these surgeons are just taking it easy downloading applications. Nice to see a couple of thomasians here, i'm 2 batches higher.
