RA tipically involves MCP and PIP but it may also affect other joints: knees, hips, ankles, cervical spine. When it goes to cervical spine - quadriplegia develops.

its definitely RA..i remember doing a q on it and Ra was the answer. it was abt a pt whoa had arthiritis and suddenly developed quadriplegia. and u had to choose btw dif arthiritides in the answer options. the correct one was RA due to C1 and C2 involvement.

RA CAN CAUSE RHEUMATOID SYNOVITIS AFFECTING THE SYNOVIAL JOINTS OF UPPER CERVICAL SPINE AND THE BURSAE WHICH SEPARATE THE ODONTOID PEG FROM THE ANT ARCH OF ATLAS AND FROM ITS RETAINING LIGAMENTS-THUS SYNOVITIS LEADS TO BONE DESTRUCTION DAMAGES THE LIGAMENTS & CAUSES ATLANTOAXIAL AND UPPER CERVICAL INSTABILITY
