What is the mecanism of methemoglobin ?

  #2

combines with CN- and forms cyanmethmoglobin and then when treated with Na thiosulphate, forms thiocyanate .

thanks of the quick reply

- CN has very high affinity for the iron present in ETC complex IV (cytochrome oxidase).

- Methemoglobin with its oxidized iron (Fe+3) captures this bound CN- and forms cyanmethemoglobin, which later on can be detoxified by a sulphur donor, thiosulphate, as icemaiden has mentioned.
