1.how does brain abscess occur in Tetralogy of Fallot?

2.tet patients are at higher risk for bacterial endocarditis?

i ahvnt read it up for sure but i guess the vsd, a lt--rt shunt wud predispose towards systemic embolisation.
anthing which disrupts the normal anatomy of the heart usually causes damage and hence predisposes to endocarditis. eg the shunt itself scud cause turbulence and mechanical damage.
normal hearts wud just succumb to hig virulence organisms. damaged ones are more susceptible

thanks, but how a l-r shunt,VSD causes systemic embolus?

  #4

i would think a R to L shunt in a vsd or asd would lead to sytemic embolisation.

this will happen in tof when there is pulm htn which occurs with time.

im so sory, i meat a rt-lt shunt..usually venous emboli are small and asymptomatic and i thin the lungs take care of them.. in a rt- lt shunt, they gain acess to tthe systemic circulation without the pulmo 'filter'
