10. A 54-year-old woman has arthritis, glomerulonephritis, fever, and an erythematous rash across her nose and cheeks. She complains of weight loss and fatigue. Immunofluorescence studies show the presence of autoantibodies to U1 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particle (snRNP). Which of the following processes is most likely to be impaired in this patient?

Click on the circle next to your answer choice
A. Assembly of the spliceosome
B. Binding to the branch site
C. Cytoplasmic transport of RNA
D. Recognition of the 3' splice site
E. Recognition of the 5' splice site

C ?

and where is the circle to click?

  #3

Anyone else has thoughts on this one?

  #4

I think is A.

I have this information:
Introns are precisely spliced out of 1 mRNA transcripts. A lariat-shaped intermediate is formed. Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particles (snRNP) facilitate splicing by binding to 1 mRNA transcripts and forming spliceosomes.

E
The U1 RNA has sequences that are complimentary to sequences near the 5' end of the intron. The binding of U1 RNA distinguishes the GU at the 5' end of the intron from other randomly placed GU sequences in mRNAs. The U2 RNA also recognizes sequences in the intron, in this case near the 3' end. The addition of U4, U5 and U6 RNAs forms a complex identified as the spliceosome that then removes the intron and joins the two exons together.

i havent come across U1 U2 U3... RNAs anywhere
where did you read this blueocean?

question:
132 UUG 133 CUG 134CCA 135UAU 136UUA 137UGU 138GUU 139AAU

Insertion of uridine between the end codon 135 and the beginning of 136 will result in protein conteinng low many amino acids?

Could someone expail the answer, please? Thanks very much.

  #12

this mutation causes a frame shift and reaches a stop codon UAA after 7 amino acids.
UAA,UAG,UGA are the stop codons.
so the new one contains 7 amino acids.

My guess is E, because snurps (snRNPs) do their splicing at the 7-MG cap end, which is the 5'end.

  #15

oh, I just noticed that the question was asked last year!

  #16

could be c.
mature mRna transported to the cytoplasm after introns removed by splicing.

This is very detailed knowledge.

Answer is E

U1 RNA recognizes GU sequence

U2 RNA recognizes 3'-acceptor end of the intron

U5 and U6 bind to RNA precursor, forming splicesome

I guess this is one of those impossible questions.
