Can someone please tell me how and when to apply for a visitor visa? i need to be in the us in march 2007. visa interview dates are given 5 to 6 months after applying. whats the usual visa duration? can i get a 1 year visa? pleaes help ....somebody

Apply now and schedule an interview date in Janaury.After your interview processing of visa can take anything from 4 days to over a month depending on various factors like background security check.Visa duration is decided by the visa counselor and can be 6 months to 10 yrs.Recently many usmle applicants got 10 year visa from delhi.

wow! a ten year visa sounds good! i will have to apply at chennai. what did they do to be favored with a 10 year visa? or is it a matter of proper wording of the request?. friends here would have me believe that it just depends on the interviewers wish. that's hard to believe about a country that is so methodical . thanks for your advice. i will apply in a day or two.

It is a 10 year visa but that is for multiple entries.Your duration of stay in US is decided differently for every visit when you arrive at the airport.I guess ur friends are right and its mainly ur interviewers wish to decide the duration.They usually dont tell you that until your passport arrives at home with the visa.
