I am new to this forum .. i just got my score 4 days back . i had 95 in my mind But THX THX THX to GOD that i still managed above 90 . Im an IMG from PAKISTAN . I did my prep from kaplan and only kaplan along with its banks books dvds . GAVE 5 readings . Scored 76 % in KAPLAN simulated. which i did after 4 readings . GAVE my step1 on 27th JULY. I will be very please if i cud be of any help to you people.
Few things about exam... it was tough ... and my biggest mistake was that i stuck to kaplan text. In every block i found some 12-15 qs which were directly or indirectly unrelated to kaplan TEXT. i must suggest that those who r in the process of preparation MUST SEE High yield FOR LIMBS and BRS / GOLJAN for patho. Rest was fine and i d been able to pick up with the help of kaplan and DVDS. iF u ppl have any other problem , please feel free to ask .

Hi Congrats!!
From which college are you in Pakistan and when did you graduate?...I am doing all Kaplan except Patho which is from Goljan. How many months did you study? What Mcq material you used?

Hello! Congrats for above 90's ! Sooo you only did Kaplan Qs? Wich ones if you dont mind?!
And if you did Q bank and Physio Q bank..how helpfull did you find each one ?
Did you do any of nbme set?
Also wht kaplan simularted Exam are you talking abt ?
I have a cd , i think is abt 350 Qs ? but is a 2002or 2003 edition , i think ! Is there a new edition of this simulated exam ?

Hi thx 1st of all ... I did my mbbs from ALLAMA Iqbal medical college lahore. passed out in MARCH 2005 .. with my step 1 i also did my houseJob From Jinnah hosp of 1 yr in ENT. if u count my study time .. its round about 11 months in total.
i DID 1st reading from kaplan text only. saw all the dvd lectures except anatomy and pharma . Then in 2nd read i did kaplan text plus 1st aid plus QBANK. Qbank was basically to gain knowledge at tht time , so i was doing it untimed . But ill recon to do this FA from 1st read . Its such a handy book on exam. Then in 3rd i mixed all 4 .. kaplan qbank First Aid and QBOOK to assess where i stand. i Scored 272/ 350 in tht. then i gave a 4th read of 20 days comprising of kaplan , FA , qbank highlighted points, and attempted Kaplan simulated and got 76 (267/350) in that. after that i had 11 days in which i studied only n only kaplan text once and almost whole of the 1st aid and took the exam. On exam i found tht they r asking too many clinical questions. Internal medicine type . i found some 12-15 qs per block which i felt were unrelated to kaplan text.
My biggest mistake ... i just stuck to kaplan for patho. i must recommend u to do BRS + KAPLAN .. and then listen to goljan audio lectures atleast twice. 2ndly in anatomy , do GENERAL embryo and limbs from Highyield.
i dint attempted NBME coz i was running out v time .. i opted for a very tight trimester , may-july and it ws july 14th wen i attempted kaplan simulated. so never had time for NBME.
i myself attempted the old CD of kaplan simulated . althou its not taking u to exact 20 + now .. but i still think that it adds atleast 15 % on the exam , provided u dun screw it up urself. Lemme tell u some of my friends KAPLAN cd scores and actual exam scores

its just a matter of having a nice sleep a day b4 exam. i must recon tht u take some tablet like DORMICUM at 10 o clock and have a good sleep till 6 am. some ppl comment tht u get amnesias etc. but i felt great in the morning. had a shower and was fully alert even wen my last block was closed . felt like i can attempt 2-3 more blocks. 
the biggest thing on exam is DONT PANIC. One of my senior gave me a very good advice b4 exam and it was the most valuable advice i ever got from some1.
HE said ... during the exam , the question infront of u is ur WHOLE EXAM. u r supposed to not even think of wt u have done in the prev qs or wt gona come next . JUST CONC on tht question.just conc on that QUESTION ... THATS IT .. THATS UR WHOLE EXAM.
In the end i must say that ... the most imp thing is the GOAL set in ur mind. U can only achieve what u AIM FOR.
