hi all, i have been a member of this forum for some time now ... i used to hand around in the usmle step 2 forum and just recently got over with step 2 ck(score is still awaited) and after a couple of some other exams i'll be starting for step 1. as of now i have kaplan materials and kaplan qbook with me and nothing else. what other qbanks should be good to have and go thru ? pls do suggest me some other question books for step 1.
i just noticed that usmleworld has also come up with their step 1 qbank. i had a very good experience with UW while preparing for step 2 but want to know how good is UW for step 1. should i go for UW or kaplan ? has anyone taken UW for step 1 preparation ?
i know step 1 is going to be a grueling test and i will need to work hard to get a decent score but i want to go in after going thru the best materials so i hope i'll get some very useful and helpful advice from you all. GOOD LUCK to everyone in their preparations.

Hi, I also took step 2 ck before step 1, like you did (also still waiting for the score).
From my experience UW step 2 is awesome, so I decided to take a chance with the new step 1 qbank, I even started using it before the official release( I send an email and they offered me an early 2 day trial, but I think they don’t do this anymore)
In my opinion the questions are hard(just what I look for), they keep the same style with great explanations. But in the other hand, it’s still quite new, it needs improvement. There are only about 1100 q, since I started using it they added 100 new questions(20 days).
I went trough the whole thing, and then started with USMLERX by the guys from first aid, this q are just OK, on the easy side maybe, they make you go though all FA and a little beyond. As far as Kaplan, I haven’t used it yet, read some posts claiming that their questions are as difficult like usmle rx, but I can tell this from sure.

i just opened the kaplan site and saw that they have 2150 questions !! and i have been able to download a kaplan qbank from a site and i wonder if it is the same as the original kaplan online qbank. people who have the online qbank, pls let us know. i'll be attaching the qbank in the next post. thanks again and good luck with your preparations.

the kaplan qbank i managed to download. pls let us know if it is the same as the real kaplan online qbank. thanks.
just realised that i won't been able to attach all the files as they are in word document format and they are subjectwise and i'll have to attach them all seperately as i have different files for all subjects, so i am attaching only microbiology at present to get an idea. thanks.

hey achilles, so nice to see you on the Step 1 forums. I rememember you were a great contributer to the Step 2 ones and really helped me with my prep. Good luck with your score, although I'm sure u wouldnt need it since u would have already slammed Step 2CK!
anyways I subsribed to UW last week and the content seems pretty good. I luved UW for step 2 and that was the only Qbank I did before my exam.
Of course the down side is that it has only about 1100 Qs but of course the price seems reasonable as well. The other thing is, it doesent seem to have that many BS questions and I got the impression that a few questions were almost repeated with minor changes. Currently I wouldnt rate it as good as UW for Step 2CK but I still think its pretty worhtwhile. And of course typically of UW it makes u think a lot, which is classic USMLE style!
