A 44-year-old woman presents to her family physician with intermittent
headache and the complaint that she can’t see in her left
eye. The examination reveals that the woman is blind in her left
eye. When a light is shined into her left eye there is no direct or
consensual pupillary light reflex. Magnetic resonance angiography
(MRA) shows a large aneurysm at the origin of the ophthalmic
artery. Which of the following represents the usual point of origin
of this vessel?
 (A) Cavernous part of the internal carotid artery
 (B) Cerebral part of the internal carotid artery
 (C) First segment (A1) of the anterior cerebral artery
 (D) First segment (M1) of the middle cerebral artery
 (E) Petrous part of the internal carotid artery

A

A..opthalmic is the continuation of the int carotid out of the cavernous sinus

well I think its C
the reason for that is when anterior cerebral artery arises..it is in relation with OPTIC nerve and the question tells us that there is no direct or consensual light reflex tthat means...something wrong with OPTIC notwith occulomotor as there are no afferent signals for light reflex pathway and if we look at the anatomy....the aneurysm of anterior cerebellar artery first part should be in relation with this not the cavernous part of IC ...as IC is in relation with III, IV, VI and V1 V2 in there...there are two types of relationships of IC in cavernous sinus..one posterior and one anterior...they are different smiling face
anyway.. m out ... I wil be happy to know if someobody gives explanation for A

hey waqas, chk out netter's atlas, opthalamic artery runs beside the optic nerve! so definitely its aneurysm can compress optic nerve that can cause blindness..... but the question does'nt ask abt the cause of blindness here, rather they are asking a hard-liner anatomical fact....so don't mix those two up!

answer is A

A-cavernous segment... optic nerve dysfunction may not be necessarily due to pressure...may be thromembolic process from large aneurysmal sac as well
