A 58-year-old male has diabetes mellitus. This disease
has been poorly controlled for many years. As a conse-
quence, he has had nonenzymatic glycosylation of free
amino groups of proteins in his body. This process is best
illustrated by finding which of the following pathologic
abnormalities?

O (A) Peripheral neuropathy
O (B) Amyloid replacement of islets
O (C) Formation of retinal microaneurysms
O (D) Accelerated atherogenesis
O (E) Cataracts

i think A too.

  #5

why not c could you explain why you choose a?

  #6

the answer is D
(it is given in Goljan's pathology review pg 262..........glucose comines with aminogroups of proteins which forms advanced glycosylation end products (AGEs) that alter vessel permeability and increse atherogenesis) options A,C and E are due to osmotic damage.

Thanks for clarifying Sridevi
