No program director is going to include you on his match list if you haven't interviewed with him. By the same reasoning, why would you want to match at a program that you didn't visit to see if you would like it there.

I have heard about people interviewed over the phone!! I dont know how true this information is... but someone may know...

Rare, but it has happened. Usually post match positions. Not something to count on.
