Hi all,

I would be very grateful for any input on this particular dilemma.

In the SOP or during interviews, what is a good-sounding reason (excuse) one can give to explain the discrepancy between step 1 and step 2 scores? ie decent score in one exam and horrid/fail in the other.

From your past experiences, hearsay or simply from the depths of your creative imagination, i shall be really thankful for any help i can get.

from my imagination

I think sop should be all positive. but have a solid reason ready for the interview.

If I were you, I would try to answer the question to myself first: Was I sick? was I depressed? Was I lazy back in those days? Was I unprepared or misguided as how to and what to study for the tests? Whatever is the reason, you would be fine if your second test is the best one: you saw your bad performance in your first test and then you put a lot of energy and now you are the big winner, well succeed candidate. If the bad score came later, then you will have to emphasize whatever you did wrong. There is no problem in making mistakes, since you show that you learned a lesson with it and you now have a strategy to avoid it from happening again. In this case you will be the candidate that can grow up and improve and will show that you don't give up or just accept failures or poor results passively.
These are my thoughts...Good luck!
