hey all,
thank god,i touched 90!!though i wanted to be in upper nineties n was worrying at the same time about flunking thats cos i thought that i had messed up pretty badly in the first three blocks,so m happy with the score.
i studied from kaplan notes mainly plus i did goljan 500 pages.thats a pretty hard text to retain stuff but i tried to do it.its an amazing book n i would strongly recommend it.although after trying to retain the information u feel as if all the other subjects have evaporated from ur brain.but it covers not only path but also boichem n a bit of anatomy very well.
for pharmacology i was doing katzung in the beginning but could not find time to revise it in the end and so switched to kap notes at the last moment.but i would say kap notes n FA are sufficient for pharm.
kap notes 2005 for micro n immunology were good n sufficient along with FA.
anat.,biochem,genetics i mainly followed kap notes.
for physio i did just BRS although i wanted to kap notes too but couldnt somehow.
for behavioural too i did BRS only.
had been studying on n off for six months but picked up speed only in the last month cos it felt as if m not retaining anything.n burnt myself out in the last 15 days(i think that was my biggest mistake).
my exam was not that hard,it was very much doable but i just couldnt think n reason cos i had not slept well.i went to take the exam tired n exhausted with a bad headache n backache which i had developed due to continuous sitting in the chair for long hours.i could not think although i had some very easy n straight one liner questions.was not being able to recall simple facts  .also i didnt take a break in the first two blocks(again a bad move).after that i gulped down two tabs of excedrin with some redbull n started doing the exam.it was kind of a nightmare n i wanted to get done with it quickly so i took short breaks after that after every block.
my mistakes that i think i made:
1)i took it too hard on myself in the last two weeks that made me worn out by the day of my exam.
2)didnt manage my time properly in the blocks,iwas feeling kind of in arush on every block although i never had a time problem on the qbank.may be i was trying to be overcautiousn so spent too much time even on straightforward things!!
3)didnt take a break in the first two blocks.
otherwise the exam is very much doable n the only thing that i would like to say to all the people out there is to start sleeping well about 10 days before ur exam n n go to ur exam center relaxed n confident.dont get over stressed n dont panick in the last days cos that can really hamper ur performance on the exam day.
also start doing nbmes about 45 days prior to ur exams n look up at all the topics covered in them.my exam was very much similar to the nbme pattern like a lot of question from the general path.
my exam was mainly about path,very little behav.,micro n pharm.n lots of neuroanat,n immuno.lots of COPD stuff n hematopath(in which i was not very good).genetics was wierd  as always.
i was scoring about 75% on the qbank near my exam.n i scored 600 on nbme 1.so i was not happy with my performance after the exam.
but m happy anyways just to be over with it n my next aim is to try even harder to get a better score on ck.

wow congrats! i have one doubt!is kaplan notes sufficient for neuro anatomy?did u get lots of mris and cts?
did u use any particular material for preparing for cts and mris?

thanks robin.
suv,i think kap notes are sufficient for neuroanat,everything is very well explained.but i used HY neuroanat to look up at the images n some diagrams.yes there were mris n cts but luckily not lots of them.also gross specimens.i tried doing images from webpath but gave up after some time.but do look up huntingtons,acoustic neuroma at cerebellopontine angle(very important),gross of alzheimers,MS.i mean just the important ones.most of the time the question stem is enough to point out the answer.i had about 2 or 3 where i could not make ny sense.n thanks n good luck.
thanks drpkaur.i used goljan text (500 pages) which is no longer in print i think.i got it from one of my seniors.its not the review book.but it doesnt come with ny questions to practice.but u can google for goljans high yield n comprehensive exams,m sure u will get them on the net.good luck.

well goodyear i studied mainly pharm,biochem n anatomy from the FA,about three times,rest just once.but try to cover the whole FA about tree times before ur exam,all the subjects.its indeed a good review.good luck.
