Ok, I dont know if these questions have alrady been asked and answered a million times by now...but please guys be kind enough to do me the honors one more time!

IN CAF...did you guys put down internships (the compulsory ones they generally have as a degree requirement) under work experience?

I am gonna put t my research exp/observership/etc all under work ex (since it includes the option of volunteer positions - this has a very specific contextual meaning out here in the US, but never mind!)

Thanks guys..and goodluck with your stuff too!

I agree with you. My compulsory internship, observership, externship, prior residency-all go in work exp. precisely for the same reason!

I too am wondering abou t that.

I am going to put it under work since my transcripts dont include it. also it is after complteting the requirements ofr MBBS. I will mention it was part of the compulsory rotation.

let me know if you find otherwise.

Cool..looks like we have a very quick consensus!

Anyways...issues abound:

Did any of you guys list abstracts under publications? And what about projects that are in the pipeline (but the pipeline is seemingly very long?)De facto, they are not publications...any suggestions?

if you have recieved your degree after your compulsory internship, it is not part of work experience, it is part of your education. if you consider specialist CV, all of them, write the residency period under the education period not work, Internship is not more than rsidency.

Maybe my bias is that I completed a residency in my home country, but I tend to agree with amir. I did also an internship necessary to obtain the medical degree and I will not include it in work experience, because I believe it is still part of the education.

Especially because in US, internship is considered the first year of residency (very different than what I did). Internship in my country is only similar to subintenrship at most. Even a sub I is not comparable at all with a PGY1..Thats my humble and conservative opinion.
Good luck to everyone. ngt.

yes residency should come under grad med Education. But there is nowhere to put the compulsory internship for people whose transcripts dont include them. What are your suggestions?

also I dont know about projects in pipelines, but I think papers in the process of being published can be mentioned as 'in press'.

I think if your publication has already been accepted you can list it as "in press".

However, if you are waiting for the peer reviews or the revision of the changes you made after you received the reviewers' comments (I.e. No formal editorial acceptance yet) then I think you cannot list it as publication.

This is a rule that Harvard applies for CVs, etc...

I hope this helps. You can also call ECFMG or some other organization to ask for an "official" opinion on this issue.

Well, if you are still waiting for a decision from the editors, then you can name your paper as SUBMITTED... the guidelines from Mayo Clinic allow that. Accepted papers can be described as IN PRESS.

It has no impact in your cv when you put SUBMITTED or IN PRESS... but at least the PD´s will know that you have something going on and of course, they can ask about the current condition of your paper... was it already published or accepted??
