You are right.Though I do not know the exact mechanism but glucocorticoids do block the Prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting the PHOSPHOLIPASE A2 enzyme.
So even if this is not the sole mechanism of production of PUD ,at least it has some significant role in its pathogenesis.

yeah. trouble is kaplan says steroids on their own do not directly cause ulcers but NSAIDS do. if they have similar mech, then how come? sad

this is an unexpectedly tough one..the only thing ive found so far remotely helpful are on the effects of steroids on lysosomes..but these too are in mice!!

steroid-induced ulcers include increased gastric acid secretion, prostaglandin inhibition, and immunosuppressive effects and sea_gull theory as well smiling face
another theory I read somewhere is that Hepatocyte growth factor -(HGF) plays a role in gastric ulcer repair, facilitating the restitution of gastric mucosal epithelial cells and these naughty steroids inhibits HGF mRNA . It inhibits PGE2 and HGF release and also it inhibits the restitution of gastric cells or you can say that steroids inhibits restitution via HGF depletion.
oops, I think I am going off topic here raised eyebrow

study_ing, this particular information was not from internet ...I just knew from somewhere I don't know...so I am unable to quote the source but please correct me if it is wrong.
If I do want to learn about anythingh new I try to search very specifically related to only that feild rather then googling it on whole and then going from there....like for this one I would go to some pharmacological site and take thinghs from there own search engines. hope this technique helpssmiling face
