Well so I gave my Step 1 on the 17th of August and after a small break I wanna get to studying for CK. I dont wanna lose any momentum. I have the Kaplan 2005-2006 notes, NMS series Med, Surg, Peds and ObGyn. I have Kaplan Qbook, Kaplan Qbank 3 mo subscription and DVD lecture series to go with the Kaplan notes. Today went to the library and sat for about three hours read Cardiology. Wasnt that bad since my step 1 was fresh. Realized now the importance is on diagnosis and treatment along with Pathophys. Any suggestions? Welcome. I am thinking of reading from Kaplan notes and supplementing with a simultaneous reading from the NMS series texts. The Kaplan notes seem less to me???? Anyone given Ck with just the Kaplan notes? I will also start the USMLE World qbank after my one reading is over. I wanna give my CK in January. My CS is scheduled for November. Ahhhhhh the light at the end of the tunnel deceives me.

Hi I'm starting Step 2 Study as well and I would like to know what books you all are using. I have Kaplan and NMS Medicine, Ob/Gyn, and Peds. What other books do you all use? Is NMS good for Psych, and Surgery? What sources are you all using for questions? Thanks.

Hi Tolito ...thanks for the vote of confidence....lol...I was kinda hoping it was the light of an OR....and I am scrubbing my hands....and scrubbbing......ahhhhhh this is what sweet dreams are made of. Hi DrVirgo welcome to my diary. Well I have just started my prep so sorry I cannot be of help regarding how useful the books really are but just that when i went thorugh the Kaplan books they seemed so flimsy. No offense I am sure they are good but since I have time I wanted to be thorough with my stuff and though the NMS books are a good compromise between reading Cecils and the Kaplans. So here is my plan: I have started IM first.....Cardiology. Am reading from NMS and Kaplan together. I am making small footnotes of stuff that is important in NMS and not covered in Kaplan. I like making notes cause I have a better memory of things that I write (something to with dominant hemisphere mechanics or sh** like that...LOL). Also taking notes kinda keeps me motivated. Thats just me. I work full time as a research scientist so I do not have all day to study. I usually study like 2 hours in the early morning before work. If my work day is not too busy I can take out a couple of hours in the lunch time to go study in our well equipped library (I work in a Medical School). Then I come home, kick some Steeler ass on Madden NFL and then study for like 2-3 hrs more. Thankfully my workschedule is very flexible and boss is a gem so I usually never had a problem even for Step 1. Yet it is a haphazard way of studying but should be enough. For Questions: Right now I have the Kaplan Qbook and thats it. I will definitely take the USMLE World Q bank as many people have suggested them as a great source. I will also take the Kaplan Qbank online and thats about it. There is also another source www.studentconsult.com/usmle that has a qbank made my med students so its worth a try. 6000 questions should be enough practice. What else? Hmmmm.....so today I have to finish Cardiology reading 1. Hopefully will work but I do have a doctor's appointment today so GOK. Will keep yall informed.
