Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hi again everyone...

Sorry for the long leave of absence...

I took the test about a month ago, after which I took a nice long well deserved vacation... and just got my results this week.

I will not post my score, but I will just say I am very happy with my results and I actually did better than my goal and much better than I thought I would do after taking the exam...

Honestly, right after the exam, I ONLY remembered tons of questions I got wrong, and was in a very bad panic state. Days went by and I remembered more and more questions I made stupid mistakes on because I was was exhausted during the last two hour blocks... I even had nightmares that I failed miserably, and would have to take it again... Fortunately I somehow managed to do pretty well... Thank God...

This test is definitely doable, so don't give up. No matter what your NBME or Q-Bank scores are, keep trying and studying... Do as many questions you can.

Most of the questions on the exam are CLINICAL CASES with tons of info, long stems, double and triple jump questions, and sometimes even some additional useless info... Get a hold of any questions and do the right type of questions because this will help you get an idea of how to answer the actual ones on the exam. Memorization is NOT enough... You have to be able to APLY the knowledge and information you learn to patient cases. Most questions require a minute of thinking before you come to the answer... Very few are immediate question/answer type of questions.

I studied from Kaplan and Goljan ONLY. I did Q-Book, (didn't finish it), some of Q-bank, and the questions posted here from NBME.

I read all the Kaplan books and Goljan around 3 times, and also did FA once before Kaplan to get an overview, once with the final revision of Kaplan adding notes (this took a long time, and I totally marked up my FA book with TONS of information just to have it all in one place), and did a final revision of FA a week before the exam (in about 3-4 days)...

I also bought block 3 a month before the exam... I felt the NBME score for me was WAY OFF and NOT a good indicator of my actual exam score...

If anyone has any further questions I will be glad to help. smiling face

And finally, thanks to everyone who I studied with here on the forum... The discussions we had were awesome, and it always helped to talk out any doubts or misconceptions about certain topics.

I'll see you all in the Step 2 CK Forum soon! smiling face

-Dr. Virgo

Hi Dr Virgo, congratulations!!!

About your NBME, the score they predicted was higher or lower than your actual score?
And were the questions harder than qbank? I got the fact that they are different, and much longer, with much more info, but the actual concepts tested were they more difficult, or it's pretty much the same stuff we get from qbank and First Aid? And what about the research - mad scientist q, did they come up a lot on ur exam?

Thanks a lot for the help and best of luck on Step 2!

congrats dr. virgo for a nice score.

can all you friends help me solve my confusion.

i just gave step 1 last week and starting for step 2.
before that i thought i should take your kind advice.

here is briefly how i did in the exam.
it was ok but some questions were really obscured and i was scratching my head.
i finished goljan and it was extremely important--- i really realised in the exam.
i read kaplan except pathology, first aid, goljan pathology and 100 pages.

1. i did entire kaplan q bank, q book and phyio q bank--- 75 to 80 %.
that's all what i did for questions.
2. NBME: form 3 ---720
form 4 ---670
3. usmle cd: 44/46/46

i found the exam a step ahead to NBME.
so i was just confussed that is there any correlation to NBME.
based on your experience of step 1, can you help me estimating my score.
i will get in couple of weeks though. but still.......

thanks

pranav

meanwhile i gave a diagnostic test for step 2 from usmle cd
i got 36/46.
i will start preparing in couple of days.
can you shine some light on approximately how much time i may need to study.
i plan to go with kaplan and usmle world.please make any suggestions if this is inadequate.
