i have prepared for step 2 since 3 months. I completed my Kaplan Step 2 Q bank with an average score of 71. And right now i am getting an average score of 72 in my usmleworld q bank random tests. I have taken NBME 1 and i got 580. I am just 15 days away from my real exam and i dont know where do i stand. Because even today when i give random 46 question test in Usmle world q bank , i still have to guess so many times and still dont feel confident how well i performed at the end of each test. Please help.

hi lakshya, u cud try looking up in the Exam Score Thread and make a ruff calc for urself. but keep in mind, lately thr hv bn some ppl who's nbme scores didnt correlate wth the real score. and its ok to guess as long as its an educated guess. the exam has some content tht is not in the books u wud hv studied from....some are common sense Qs and some real-life facts. for the latter, if u hv no idea, u wud just hv to make a ruff guess (pick ur fave letter) and move on. dont get bogged down....keep moving on till u reach the last Q. I say this coz, wth UW or Kaplan u might hv a false sense of security of having good speed.....however usmle just might make one look like a turtle (it made me). the Qs are not any longer than UW Qs......infact abt some 30% in each block were betwn 2-4 lines.....in the rest of the Qs, i cudnt spot any buzz words or straight fwd clues. so wth a slow thot process, time is wasted in feeling sure abt the right diagnosis. But keep in mind, most of the Qs (atleast in mine) didnt want the diagnosis...it wantd the next step in management. and that includes hving to choose between 'treatment' or 'investigation'. so in ur last 15 days, include gvng a quick brush over this aspect, of the high yield diseases. its impt though, in the last week, stick to what u hv read before and revise it once! most of the Qs on my exam, i found, were not constructed in a helpful way (as compared to step 1). so after u hv read the Q once and spent 15 seconds confirming ur answer, be faithful to urself and stick with the answer. my most sincerest advise (from my own mistakes) do NOT change the answer unless u hv solid evidence infront of u that it ws wrong. coz ur gut feel, wch is the first feel, is almost always right. Another thing, while ur doing Qs in the prometric center, i suggest u not think about ur score at all! leave that thot at home, on ur study table. If u let ur mind fill up with 'wht will be my score?', u can just as well assume its tumbled down by some points. dont take ur eyes off ur 'lakshya'....tht is to answer as many qs as correctly as possible. thts all. good luck in ur test. stay cool, calm and confident; u will win this.
