A homeless 25-year-old man is found in an alley in a semicomatose state and is taken to the hospital. Other homeless people in the alley believe that he may not have eaten for several days. What is the most likely primary source of his blood glucose?

Answer Choices Correct answer Your answer
A. Adipose triglycerides
B. Liver glycogen
C. Muscle glycogen
D. Muscle protein

explain plz.

D?

  #3

a?

  #4

A?

  #5

hmmm, trigycerides cannot be converted to glucose, liver glycogen is used up by 24hrs,muscle glycogen cannot reach blood stream as there is no glucose 6 phosphatase,so it has to be muscle protein-----alanine---gluconeogenesis.

  #6

glycerol from trigycerides converted glucose

  #7

The answer is D-->muscle protein.

This is a bad question, infact the most important source of energy during starvation is Fatty acids and fats, but they can't give directly glucose (remember that they can give glicerol-P,but they still need Piruvate do have glucose...), so the answer is protein...alanine-->piruvate-->glucose

the answer is d muscle protein-gluconeogenic amino acids from them are used to produce glucose

Option D (Muscle protein) is correct. The majority of amino acids used for gluconeogenesis come from muscle breakdown during extended fasting.

Option A (Adipose triglycerides) is incorrect. The glycerol released during lipolysis can serve as a source of carbons for gluconeogenesis during extended fasting, but the primary source is muscle protein.

Option B (Liver glycogen) is incorrect. Liver glycogen would have been consumed within the first day of fasting.

Option C (Muscle glycogen) is incorrect. Muscle lacks the phosphatase necessary to release glucose from glycogenolysis into the circulation
