Dear bbb and apurva.. please read and reply... Who started this procedure of observorships.I wrote to almost 150 programs at NY NJ OH PA AND of course CA....i havent a single response that they accept or provide oppurtunity for observorships.. but most of the programs say the words not mandatory...but preferred.... SO BBB,,i just wanted to know, why are they asking for something which they cannont provide.... US never allows to practice ....without license ..even touch a patient..then this policy of making requests that sounds so absurd are followed by program... Is there a way we can change.... can programs offer observorships and then ask for these....

Don't ask me? Applicants have been doing observerships since I have been working in IM in 1988. Programs can ask for observerships - it's their right. But there are programs (such as mine) that don't offer observerships, don't even ask for them - and we are a high quality good strong program. Reverse the question - if I was going to another country to observe - don't they have the right to tell me that it's not allowed, I need direct patient contact before they hire me??? Same thing.
