i have 2 decide when 2 take step1
it is critical decision
so i want 2 post a poll

option1:
take step 1 directly after preclinical phase and before the clinical phase(as american students do)
option2:
take step 1 after graduation

please i feel i am in the middle of no where i need to solve this issuemad

this is not an easy one. both has its pros and cons. it depends on whether you have short term or long term memory. whether you are interested in a holistic approach to medicine or whether you are comfortable with one step at a time. and the choices go on. i personally think its better to give the steps after graduation because there is a lot of maturation process going on in the final years of medicine.

i´m actually having the same doubts.. but i haven´t decided yet. currently i´m just complementing the studying i do at school with some USMLE books and trying to get used to the exam format little by little.
personally, i guess the best time is after you graduate, based on the fact that you can dedicate yourself entirely to test-prep. i live in south america and our schools keep us pretty busy.
i believe it all depends on how much time you have at your school and if you´ll be able to feel more confident if during the months prior to taking the exam if you´ve just had your mind put to work on your step 1 prep. i guess that´ll work best in my case, nevertheless i will still try to go on reading and doing some q´s. just consider what will give YOU the best results.
