I just took the NBME for Step 1 and got a 340 on it!!! I have signed up to take Step 1 on September 8th! Don't know if I keep the date or study some more until I get a higher score ont he NMBE practice exams. I took the NBME 1. I plan to take NBME part 2 tomorow. Do you guys think is a good idea to take the part 2 tomorrow or should I wait until next week??? Technically it is a 175 on the three digit score. And I guess I can't pass with that since I need a 182 right? I need some advice on what to do. I have yet to cover some material from Kaplan Notes (some biochem and physio). I'm reviewing pharm this week. I was planning on taking NBME part 3 like September 2nd and then decide if I will take step 1 or not on the 9th. This is the last month of my 3 month period. I can extend it for another 3 months. I'm signed up for Step 2 Kaplan Live Lecture Review for September 11th, but I guess step 1 is first priority. Help please... I have already failed step 1, got 71 %tile 174 last time. What is the optimum score on the NBME??? I guess like a 400 on their scale... right? Man!!! I'm on panic mode!

hi,
well, I would suggest you to do nbme 2, not nbme 3 bcz nbme 3 is the toughest one and people do say that nbme 1 and 2 is closer to exam not nbme 3, actually nbme 3 score made me and others to delay their exam.
I think you should read your weak areas and try again nbme, whenever your feel you r ready. Hope you will do good in your nbme and real exam.

Thanks Shakeels... When do you suggest for me to take NBME 2? Two weeks? I'm thinking of postponing my exam for another 2 or 3 weeks until the end of September. What do you thinK?

from the little study i did of the exam score thread, it is virtually impossible to change your score by more than 5 marks within 2 weeks. so i will advise you wait a month and then do NBME 2. prepare for NBME 2 like it was the real exam and then take it. it will predict your likely score at the main exam. i scored 540 2 weeks before exam and 540 again on night of exam. i read like i would die and i did not get to change my scores at all!!
dont take NBME 3. it will discourage you.

by the way, dont read or answer NBME Q people post on the forum till you have taken the exam or you will get a false result. a lot of the questions are repeat.

THanks Tolito...  I will take it in 1 month then. So I will try to take Step 1 at the end of September. Has anybody taken the NBME Step 1 (form 4)??? Is it too hard as well??? I thought I saw a 4th version of it. I'm just trying to pass USMLE... do you think a 400 on NBME scale is a good score to pass it?
