hmm..interesting to note that drugs used for UC...sulfasalzine, prednisone are associated with male infertility note this frm http://www.ivf.com/shaban.html which says: Sometimes glucocorticoid excess (prednisone usage) is exogenous in the therapy of ulcerative colitis, asthma, or rheumatoid arthritis. The result is decreased spermatogenesis. The elevated plasma cortisone levels depress LH secretion and can cause secondary testicular dysfunction. Correction of the glucocorticoid excess results in improvement in spermatogenesis also it is sulfasalzine (not ASA)that is associated with reversible male infertility in pts being treated with it for UC. alternative is mesalazine or ASA...not able to post tht link here.

I think infertility is due to UC, but papers say is not very common for males. They have a slightly low rate for infertility during active disease.

If you think on sulfasalazine... it can cause oligospermia with doses over 8g/day, so.. a patient can tolerate only 4g/day. Maybe prednisone can induce this kind of infertility
