Which diuretics would be the appropriate in following situations:

1. 80 y.o. Pt with CHF and creatinine clearance of 20 mL/min
2. HTN+Diabetes
3. Pt w/HTN + Hx of Ca oxalate renal stones
4. ASA overdose
5. HTN+Visual changes


A. Acetazolamide
B. HCTZ
C. Triamterene
D. Furosemide

hi khorshid ,i post ques whatever and from wherever i got and i don't want to post answers so quickly as i want lots of forum members to participate and use their brains ,,,,as you only answered to my ques,i want more others to answer first and then i post the correct answer...hope you have understood.

1.D. furosemide, CHF, impaired renal function
2. B. HCTZ. Hyperkalemia is more likely to occur in patients with DM, even with normal renal
function. Triamterene is not good choice.
3. B. HCTZ , decrease urinary Ca level
4. A. Acetazolamide, elimation of acidic drugs
5. A. Acetazolamide, only med working on eyes, glaucoma

Nan but one of HCTZ's side effects is that it increases BS(hyperglycemia), so I guess it's not a good choice for a diabetic
