Hi future CS takers,
I passed my CS yesterday.my overall feeling regarding CS is that it's an easy exam if ur english is good.NEVER freak about CS.
As a good doctor, do ur homework well.Prepare for 15 days.practice,practice,practice the cases.
During the exam even if u forget to do the most important Physical exam or forget the most important part in History.you will still pass, if u had followed PAMHUGFOSS.
Surprisingly in my exam, I never touched ophthalmoscope for even a diabetic or hypertensive patient and still passed.U CAN IMAGINE WHAT I MEAN BY SAYING IT'S AN EASY EXAM.
Just behave like a real doctor not as a student.A resident is considered a physician NOT a student in america.So be polite,help the patient in geting up specialy old ladies.offer help anytime.Smile but not when patient is in pain or telling her chief complains.Always say -sorry to hear that!
Wash hands ,drape,if u cause pain say 'sorry,will not repeat it'.For pain patients say'I will order some pain medications in order sheet.Are u allergic to any pain killers'?.do u take any pain medications at home for this pain(if chronic)?
To every patient say, u will see him/her again in morning as it's not the busiest day day of ur office & U will revise the reports with her in evening.I personaly said, I am leaving my cell no.with the charge nurse-u can call me anytime.
Trust me,I only did this and took a good history.I did Not do important physical exams like SLR for lumbar pain,ophthamoscopic exam for HTN,DM STILL PASSED.
My patient's note were legible but NOT ORGANIZED.I wrote in every empty space possible,It was not in straight lines.I wish, I could give u a sample of my personal notes.
Just be a true doctor,mention every point anywhere on plane paper.mention all ur findings.For physical exam of a kid,I wrote -WILL PERFORM PHYSICAL EXAM ON 'JUAN' IN ER.I wrote it instead of writing' None'.I feel The physician who read it must have felt proud of me as a doctor.AS MY INTENTION WERE TO CHECK THE PATIENT COMPLETELY.
Oh boy!I congratulated the exam center manager in houston for conducting the exam in a good way.He felt very good and proudy that time,I saw his eyes 'they charmed'.I just respect him a lot.
Anyways, do not expect the best food in lunch-specialy if u r not used to eating only smashed patatos wraped in silver foil.carry ur own food(eat fish or onion if u can afford to have a bad breath while talking to patients).People do carry Tooth brush & tooth paste to brush their teeth after the lunch.Do it ,only if u dont have a sensitive gag reflex as mine.I did not do it.
Relax on the day of exam,talk to everybody,u will be surprised bu ur ability of making quick friends.I am sure u will make many friends on that day.Atleast on my day everybody talked to each other.
before ending I would like to say Good luck to all of u with my 2 cents 'Never worry for CS.its easy'. You will surely echo this words after u get ur test results.
If somebody fails or has failed,U are free to ask me anything, I will do my best to help u.I am not 'the best' but I am good human being who knows it's not going to be easy for everyone specialy, if u have a problem with ur confidence and English.Practicing the case will realy help u in that case.U cam mug up ENGLISH FOR THIS EXAM.Mine isn't great,but I speak slow & loud with confidence and that's what matters.

congrats and thanks for advice.i have 2 weeks to prepare for cs.is usmle world enough?do i need first aid?how shall i start my preparation?thanks

I used both usmle world and 'first aid'.In my opinion its better to invest 30 dollars more for a 1200 dollar exam but Its not a must.People have passed the exam easily without first aid.So If u feel confident abt urself u can do it with usmle world but my advise is buy First aid.
2 weeks is enough.start with questions u need to ask pateints pertaining to history.for example,what is colour of ur sputum?how will u grade ur pain on a scale of 1 to 10.Practice the questions to be asked for all chief complaints.These will be fever,cough,headache,fatigue,nausea & vomiting,diarrhoea,constipation,dizziness,chest pain,trauma,back pain and some more common complains.
this will take half a day.then do go thru physical exam from HEAD TO TOE.one by one.Now find a partner tomorrow start practicing the case first by seeing and comparing in the notes or book then without it and ULTIAMATELY TIMING THEM FOR 15 MINUTES.do not worry much for patient notes now.Just practicie writing 2 or 3.u will get the knack of it.
u can practice over phone with usmlebuddies.Find some one on forum,reach for help and help them too.

thanks guest007 for ur advice.i have to buy first aid online n it takes 7-8 days for delivery.thats the reason i asked if fa is required.
ill order it right away.but wat shud i concentrate in fa?all the cases or anything else?

I had forgotten to do opthalmoscopy in HTN case as well... Also forgot to do Cranial Nerve exam in a trauma case where the SP had complains of every thing following assault....your post makes me feel a bit relaxed abt it now. Congratulations guest 007.... I hope i can say the same abt my result in October...

Hi Loser,
did not understand wht u meant by saying-its seems i m the first one on moon?.May be u r more happier than me on passing CS.congratulations to u for being on moon with me, if u are.
RN,concentrate on each case on FA.I started the FA with basic questions to be asked in history then the cases.I did differential diagonsis part of FA 2 days before exam

Hi,
first , thank you for you sincere advice in this forum. Ihave a question. I wonder how much I should write while I'm listening to the SP. I'm afraid to forget important things,like when the symptom started (yesterday, 3 days ago...)at the same time, I 'm concerned about waisting too much time and not making eye contact with SP.
What's you opinion

I have taken 2cs in july waiting for results, seems like a century ,
ur email was very nice helped me to have some hope.
I've got some qs
Did u finish all of ur cases on time .i didn't get the chance to have conclusion for 4 of my cases just till the end of physical exam and just got the chance to say i will come back.
and when u took ur exam ?
