what does being board certified mean?

  #2

means u have completed the requirements of the board. u need certain amount of clinical training and then ur pd certifies it and then u sit for an exam. on passing the exam the result is valid for 10yrs. then u retake the exam. required for most attending jobs. in short the residency + exam = a sort of american masters in medicine.. hope i didnt confuse u..

You need residency to become board certified, wait, you need residency to become board eligible. Then you take the boards, and if you pass you are board certified.

yes board certified means you have taken the exam at the end of three years and have passed it.

Board eligible meas you have trained for required number of years to take the board exams.

in short BE= BOARD ELIGIBLE(ELIGIBLE TO SIT FOR BOARD EXAMS.)

BC= BOARD CERTIFIED (PASSED EXAM)

This is what u get/do at the end of residency it has got nothing to do with residency application.
