In what directions would you asked the eye ball to be moved to test the competence of the extraocular muscles? - ALL OF THE EXTRAOCULAR MUSCLES.

for a single eye, Superior rectus- moves eye lateral and upward Inferior rectus- moves eyeball lateral and downward Superior oblique - moves eyeball medial and downward Inferior oblique - moves eyeball medial and upward Medial rectus- medial Lateral rectus - lateral So, for testing:- Superior rectus- ask patient to look upward and laterally and so on for each muscle , ask them to perform that same function as the muscle. So in III nerve palsy, eye is going to be acted upon by superior oblique(IV) and lateral rectus (abducens), so eye is going to be looking lateral and downward. In IV nerve palsy, if left superior oblique is affected, there is left head tilt, the left superior oblique is failing to look medial and downward, so the head is tilted to left. http://med-apos.bu.edu/lecture/crnerve/LSOpalsy.G... In VI nerve, eyeball fails to move lateral.
