I have rcvd responses form most of the IM programs by now regarding their application requiremnets for IM. A few of them have cut off scores of 80 + which is good for me.... but a few good community programs want 85 + scores and 6 months US/CA/UK clinical experience. I have scores of 83 and 89. I have 2 questions:
1 - If i apply to the programs that require 85 +, will they consider my UK experience as a plus point and ignore my Step 1 score of 83? What I mean to say is that, will the PD even look at my application and PS and LOR or will they just ignore my whole application on basis of scores. Is there some kind of screening system for scores used by PDs?
2 - I have experience of EM in UK and i have got 3 LORs from EM consultants. I have sent these LORs to ERAS for scanning. Will the EM LORs be considered for IM programs or do I need LORs from IM. I have never worked in general Medicine apart from my internship which was in 2002. What should I do now? I am interested in categorical IM, prelim IM in decent community programs.
Will also be applying to a few surgical program as I have some Surgical experience in UK as well.
I have past clinical experience which ruins my chances for IM in USA. In 2002, there was no proper training for EM in UK so we were encouraged to do either med or surgery jobs and fulfil the requirements for EM training exams. I have been doing Basic Surgical training ( Trauma & Orthopaedics + EM and yet to do Gen Surgery) in UK in order to complete the UK exams for Surgery as well as EM. I hope this does not back fire for my ambitions for EM/Critical Care as a fellowship specialty choice and IM residency plan in USA.
Any help from bbb or senior memeber will be much appreciated.

i strongly suggest that u call up indiv progs and ask if they wil / wil not consider ur appli bcoz its program dependant.
and why dont u put in around 20 applications in bottom rung EM programs. its not that expensive and u never know some1 might be impressed by ur ukce in em
