Hi guys,
can any one tell me about their personal experience about in nbme 3, bcz its kind of scary getting a low score, if its hard then I'm save or if its not then I'm devastated. In the other forum people were saying that nbme form 3 is hard, but I want to ask you all, what is it???

i thought it was much harder than nbme 1. its the reason i put back my exam till october. i got 480 in nbme 1 but then went down to 420 on nbme 3. barely enough to pass. couldnt believe it.

emd 12, if ur planning to take it, then with no second thot take it. after getting the score u may then compare. may sound harsh, but its the best way.

I also found it more difficult than I expected. and my low score made me delay my exam too.

I have not taken it yet, I plan on taking it next week. I have heard it is harder. Do those that have taken nbme 3 and step 1, believe it is closer to actual exam than nbme 1 and 2? Thanks, (...I'll let u know next week what i think lol)

hi luci,
tell me whats your score is, bcz I got 320 after very disturbed envoirment when I was doing it, but I was thinking that even if I was disturbed, I should not get that low score, but now I figured out that its bcz of both,
1 disturbance at the time when I was doing it and
2 its the hardest amoung all
It also made me to delay my exam date, bcz I was about to give my exam in first week of August, but that score put me down and tense and depressed, and I was thinkig that I have to work hard for about 3 months to get thru my exam, but as you all are saying that its also hard for you, then its ok and i will try to do nbme 2 with in few weeks and go for exam.

i was also planning on taking step 1 first week of august. but one week before i had a strange panic attack during the night and couldn't go back to sleep. first thing the next morning i decided to take #3. it had been two months since i took #1 with my weakest areas being behavioral, pharm, hematology and renal. i studied heavily in these areas afterwards but did not change one bit my performance. not only that but everything came out lower. i think being stressed out has a lot to with it as i was in a hurry to find out what my score would be and finished every section with 25 mins to spare. seeing the lower score was terrible. worst part was telling my family i was postponing it till at least mid sept.

I guess it will gona help me more to evaluate my self. Bcz I was thinking that I didn't prepare well for my exam and can't do it. By knowing all of your experiences I can be more calm down and relax.

yes guys, it has been advised not to take NBME 3 cos it will dampen your spirit and discourage you. i did not take it for that reason. it is generally advised that NBME 1 and 2 are the better predictors. i also took a close look at the score board thread and i found out that most people had scores +/- 5 of their NBME score and very few people were able to make a major difference within 2 weeks. so when i scored 540 2 weeks before, i thought i would prove my derived 'statistics' wrong but hey, i took it on night before exam and i got 540!!! gen malaise, i had similar experience, those areas i was formerly weak i became strong and vise versa. i could not sleep cos i was hoping for a 99. i revised those areas i had forgotten ( which the NBME brought out) and i had just 4hrs sleep.
anyway, my score improved barely from 228/92 to 231/94 ( just as predicted!! ). so i can join others in saying that NBME 1 AND 2 are highly predictable.
however, a word of caution, in order to increase its predicatablility, you must have studied for the NBME like it was the real exam. so you go for it in top form like it was the real exam.

I have taken Step 1 two times before. I failed the first time with a 154 and took it the second time and failed with a 171 (I was going through a divorce and my children were abducted out of the country by my ex-wife). I have improved a lot, but I was dissapointed to get a 340 on the NBME 1. I guess I'll be confident to go to the exam with a 400 on the NBME scale. So, I'll take NMBE part 2 in 3 weeks or so. I was scheduled to take the exam on the 8th of Setpember but I will push it back until the last week of September so I have some time to cover some more material. I'm driving my fiance crazy since she says that I need to take it. But I think this NBME is pretty accurate, so I'm being cautious this time. I don't know how many time you can take USMLE Step 1 but I think taking it more than 3 times doesn't look good. I wish everyone good luck and I will let you guys know how I do on part 2 and maybe I'll take part 3 if I feel super confident after my 400!  I was low on respiratory system, renal/urinary system, nervous system/special senses. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to improve my score by 60 points on NBME scale? Thanks...

Congrats Tolito: I wish I had a 540 and not a 340!!! Gee... Don't know how to do it! But I'm working at it. I'll take NBME 2 maybe September 3rd or September 10th. Postponing my exam until September 30th or something like that. Until I can improve to above a 430.
