Hi everybody i am having terrible problems with CCS practice. I was doing the USMLE steps123,. I Keep getting a lower score between 50 - 60% because i always order something before i am supposed to or after i am supposed to! how much is that going to hurt me during the real exam? As long as i order everything am i gonna be okay? for eg, for a case of diabetes, if i order fasting blood glucose and HbA1c in seperate screens is it gonna hurt me? if i order TSH, T3 and T4 on one screen and Depression screening on the other screen is it going to hurt me? please answer!

for a case of diabetes in opd, yes, u should order fasting bl sugar and HbA1c at the same visit, doesnt matter if on same screen or not, but a case of say DM in ER eg. DKA, u can very well ask for HbA1c on the next day or even later as a routine inv.. Same for hypothyr...if u r ordering TFT for suspected hypothy, u must also do depression screen on same day, not on next visit... one way i found useful on my exam was to write down on the laminated board all the inv i would need to do in the workup and then type them out...this way, it would give me a clearer pic, and less tendency of missing out stuff...
