Hi there,

I'm coming with a difficult question, at least for me. I'd like to apply to a program that requires 4 months of rotation in the US. So, I'm thinking to take this year Family practice and next year to reapply for IM program that I really want. The question is: can I do that? I mean, could the program say that I'm not allowed to go and I have to stay there?

Thank you for your input.

I'd like to apply to a program that requires 4 months of rotation in the US. A program in the US will require that you do all your rotations in the US - not just 4 months.

If you get into an Family medicine program, it's not that easy to just leave - you will have to do the application process all over again, use your vacation time for interviews - and convince a program director that you really want IM, and why you are leaving family med.

Technically the program could make you finish - after all you matched into a program that is a three year program.

Thanks BBB; the idea is that IM program where I want to apply for, already knows about me and what I want, and basically they told me to go and do rotations in other program and come back the next year, reapplying...so I don't want just to choose this year a FM program and next year to find out that I can not leave it...But if they can technically make me finish it, I have a big problem...

What about a transitional or preliminary year - it's a one year program only?
