Dear friends,

Does anyone tried Canadian residency?

If we pass all steps of USMLE in USA can we get a residency in Canada?

Is there any hospital in Canada offer observership or externship?

I am a French IMG , can I go and work in Canada?

Thanks

Search medical council website from quebec government.

Since you are french, lauguage test is not a problem.

And since Quebec is French, your diploma evaluation won't be a problem, too.

so, I believe you have more than average chance there.

As I heard, Canada and Quebec have doctor shortage.

At least, no problem to be a family physician. Every year, all 3 french medical schools have dozens of Family practice unmatched.

And since you are French, immigration should be much easier than most immigrants.

USMLE tests help. Only CK is needed. And they translated CK as critical knowledge. So, I think, clinical may be equal to critical in French.

Then probably, you need go through Quebec medical exams. As I heard it is easier than USMLE.

Good luck in Quebec.

Most States in the US recognize Canadian medical license. So, if you want to, you can immigrate south after residency, if you don't sign contract to promise to practice in Quebec. But no one province recognizes US license directly. And you have to be Canadian permanent resident or citizen to practice there. Canada is somehow narrow-minded country, but like to present herself as open-minded. Just personal observation. No offense.

By the way, to be a Quebec permanent resident for French is super easy. So, if you try it now, maybe you can get the green card in 3 months. It is totally different story for Chinese and other immigrants.

Another good news. Canadian match changed: previously, IMG only can match the leftover, 2nd round match; since it is sued by Canadian IMG, from this year, all join the match at the same time.

And Quebec has special quota for US student and other IMG. Remember, McGill university is an English school, though when you apply, you need to pass French test. And you can choose take any test in French in that province. If I am French,I will definitly go there. It is like your home country.
