Dear friends, Does anyone tried Canadian residency? If we pass all steps of USMLE in USA can we get a residency in Canada? Is there any hospital in Canada offer observership or externship? I am a French IMG , can I go and work in Canada? Thanks

Hey merris as far as I know( from a close relative) it is much harder and much more competative in canada, most of my friends over there got a residency here after being failed in canada, the positions available are much less and for IMGs everything is more difficult. (but that's as far as I know)

hi, in 2006 canadian match,2200 graduates including IMGs participated and only i00 IMGs got residency. important thing is that in canada there is a big pool of IMGs already done with the certification process and waiting to get residency.so dont go for something thats almost impossible.but as you are french i would suggest to try in quebec, they might have some relaxation for french people.

Bonjour Merris: I am married to a Canadian and have had experience with B.C. living there. You would have to take the MCEE. To qualify for the First Iteration Match, this year they are allowing IMGs if they have Canadian Citizenship or are a permanent resident. Each province has its own rules for applying. It is very competitive. There are I believe 13 accreditted programs in the match there. Better chances in USA. Good luck. They do have Kaplan Centers there to prepare for MCEE if you can stay there.
