suppose u r matched on j1, your spouse which is on j2 can or can not be converted to h1 upon completion of usmle step 3? thanks

No, any J visa cannot become an H visa

Check with an immigration lawyer to see about the laws. I believe you can, if you are from a country which is NOT subject to the 2 year country service requirement, but if you are from those countries that are subject to the 2 year, you must apply for a waiver before switch to H1.

there is no way out of j1 other than waiver,unless you can obtain what is called as hardship waiver.

thanks to tiger07/katzung does that imply i and my spouse BOTH have to fulfill two-year citeria? or as long as i clear two-year working at my homeland, then she is clear?
