no lo se.. no idea..

but u defin jump boat if a categ aneas position opens up in short notice since u will have the prelim reqs covered with ur im pgy1..

if it doesnt work out - u cud do critical care which does overlap a lot with gas..

So you would interview this year for IM preliminary medicine and Anesthesia for 2008, correct?

no. actually i would do categorical internal med for three years. during my third year i would apply for anesthesia residency going straight into the second year of the program. i am going to finish out the internal med residency and just do another residency, which would be another three years of anesthesia. would it be easier for me to get into anesthesia bc i would have already finished internal medicine residency for three years? or does that not matter? thanks again

But why are you going to finish three years of Internal Medicine and then to Anesthesia? A program director is going to ask you why you are bothering with the IM. It's not going to make getting into Anesthesia any easier - and you will be using a residency spot in IM that another candidate would be able to be in.

no, im just asking that at the end of my internal med residency , instead of doing a fellowship in nephro or cardio, if i want to do anesthesia, would that be ok? wont it be a good thing, that i finished an internal med residency? it would not be easier to get into anesthesia? im not sure i want to do that, just looking at options after im residency.

It's not going to make it any easier. Also, to throw another problem into your plan, residency programs are subidized by the federal government. They have the amount of years in the program that you originally joined plus one year. If you do anesthesia following IM, you will be exempt from that cost reimbursement, which isn't a good thing because anesthesia isn't a fellowship - it's a residency.

Options after IM usually are the IM subspecialties or IM practice.

Good luck
