tricyclic antidepressants cause galactorrhea due to dopamine blockage. so any condition which causes decreased dopamine should also cause galactorrhea. so why is there no galactorrhea in parkinson's? or is there?

there are different pathways involving dopamine in the brain ( i think 4). when the nigrostriatal pathwy is involved, Parkinson's symptoms manifest.

in hyperPRL a different axis is involved...check introductory sections to antiparkinson drugs in katzung or kaplan.

unfortunately with drugs, we can not pinpoint the pharmacological agent to its target area:hence the side effects.

study_ing is right.

let`s not forget that in Parkinson`s, the loss is focal, (only substantia niagra) but hypothalamus is intact.

there are 4 main DAergic pathways in the CNS:

1- Niagrostrial (involved in parkinson)
2- Mesolimbic (Schizophrenia)
3- paraventricular (satiety center)
4- Tuberoinfundibular (PL secretion)

drugs can affect all pathways, hence the side effects. but parkinson only hits the first one.
