there are different pathways involving dopamine in the brain ( i think 4). when the nigrostriatal pathwy is involved, Parkinson's symptoms manifest. in hyperPRL a different axis is involved...check introductory sections to antiparkinson drugs in katzung or kaplan.

unfortunately with drugs, we can not pinpoint the pharmacological agent to its target area:hence the side effects.

study_ing is right. let`s not forget that in Parkinson`s, the loss is focal, (only substantia niagra) but hypothalamus is intact. there are 4 main DAergic pathways in the CNS: 1- Niagrostrial (involved in parkinson) 2- Mesolimbic (Schizophrenia) 3- paraventricular (satiety center) 4- Tuberoinfundibular (PL secretion) drugs can affect all pathways, hence the side effects. but parkinson only hits the first one.
