hey star ....can EBV be latent??

  #4

sure it can!!
haven't you heard about Recurrence of Infectious mono? Brukitt's lymphoma? nasopharyngeal carcinoma?

the whole herpadnevirus family can be Latent. HSV, VZV, CMV, EBV, HHV8

E VZV

During latency, most - if not all - viral DNA is located in the cytoplasm rather than integrated into nuclear DNA

  #6

ill go with A. EBV

usual site of latancy

HSV-1----------- cranial sensory ganglia

HSV-2----------- lumbar / sacral sensory ganglia

VZV------------- cranial / thoracic sensory ganglia

EBV------------- B lymphocytes

CMV------------- uncertain (may be latent within criculating lymphod cells or epithelial cells)

refer: jawadz table 37-1

thanx aisha. very informativ.

  #8

HSV-1 latent in trigeminal ganglia.

  #9

Out of the choices above only A) EBV has a latent effect in the B -lymph cells. example is Burketts Lymphoma. The next best answer would be VZV but that is latent in nerve dermatomes. In addition, HSV may also be latent in the trigeminal nerve causing a common patholgy called "cold sores" . Hope this helps.
