I have applied for a clerkship at a local hospital.10 days ago..I havent heard from them...what shall i do now..can I call them...
ASK THEM WHATS THE SITUATION LIKE..iS THIS OK..please reply

Call them up. Ask if any paperwork is incomplete or additional information will help process your application faster (this is usa and that is how you frame the question for better outcome).
Ask for person best to contact for such query. Ask for appointment with physician/attending likely to monitor you and make a personal request by phone/email/in person.
