Most of the battle is admitting that you might not know something, but you at least know where to go to find the answer.

I am also doing an observership at present with medicine team. Just like you, I had doubts. I think I do what Apurva suggested. Keep your mouth shut untill its your turn to speak. Ask questions in private- away from patients. Do ask if you do not understand- dont feel bad about it. In my experience, I was least prepared with treatment/management plans. I was fine with diagnosis and labs. Another useful thing would be pda(if you can afford) or a small pharmacopia (pocket version) so you can look up trade names, dosage and drug interactions of formulations. Keep a diary to write things. make sure you look up these things when you go home. If you find something new/novel therapy or management wise talk it over with attending. Make sure you dont sound "smarty pants" when you do that. My standard format of questions in different situation is following- 1. if I dont know about disease/syndrome-" I know you may not have time at present, but I would like to know more about this disease/syndrome" 2. If I am unaware of treament/drug-" I am aware of drug X or Y being used for treatment of disease like this, would you share with me why you chose this drug". 3. If I am asked question(s) that I dont know answer to- " I am sorry, its been long time out of medicine world, can you tell me more on it" Hope this helps
